Description

This workshop focuses on two prominent funding schemes for individual research: DFG Individual Research Grants (Sachbeihilfe) and European Research Council (ERC) Grants. Participants will gain insights into the requirements, structures, and evaluation criteria of these schemes, and explore how to craft competitive proposals with a focus on excellence, impact, implementation, and storytelling:

  • DFG proposals: structure, evaluation, and excellence criteria
  • ERC Starting & Consolidator Grants: positioning and storytelling
  • Proposal structure: narrative, CV, track record, and impact
  • Interactive session: drafting “Excellence” sections with peer feedback

The workshop is supported by an asynchronous digital learning platform, accessible to all participants for at least six months. The platform provides:

  • Resources: proposal templates, checklists, funding overviews, video inputs, and peer forums
  • Micro-learning modules: “How to write a strong abstract,” “DFG evaluation criteria,” “ERC panel expectations,” etc.
  • Self-reflection exercises: “My scientific independence plan (SIP),” “My strategic funding map”
