Description

This workshop offers a strategic perspective on acquiring competitive third-party funding in Germany and Europe. Participants will explore the funding landscape and how to align their applications with individual research development and career plans. The workshop integrates practical funding knowledge with strategic career aims:

  • Overview of German and European research funding (DFG, ERC, BMFTR, Horizon Europe)
  •  Matching funding schemes with career stages and aims
  • Strategic independence plan: leveraging funding as a career driver
  • Interactive session: mapping individual funding roadmaps

The workshop is supported by an asynchronous digital learning platform, accessible to all participants for at least six months. The platform provides:

  • Resources: proposal templates, checklists, funding overviews, video inputs, and peer forums
  • Micro-learning modules: “How to write a strong abstract,” “DFG evaluation criteria,” “ERC panel expectations,” etc.
  • Self-reflection exercises: “My scientific independence plan (SIP),” “My strategic funding map”

 

Trainer

Dr. ès sc. habil. Alexander Schiller was a DFG Heisenberg fellow and Junior Professor for inorganic chemistry at the University of Jena (Germany). Since 2016 he is a full-time trainer and certified coach.
