Description

The workshop supports doctoral supervisors in developing and reflecting the necessary knowledge, understanding and skills to guide a diverse group of doctoral researchers to successful and timely completion. It explores the changing roles and responsibilities over the doctoral life cycle and provides hands-on tools and recommendations to establish and maintain a positive working relationship – not only with doctoral candidates but also masters’ students and postdocs.


By participating in the workshop, you will be better equipped to:

  • Understand the evolving nature and purpose of doctoral education
  • Build working relationships with both candidates and co-supervisors
  • Support doctoral research projects and monitor progress
  • Scaffold professional and personal support to individual needs
  • Prepare effectively for thesis completion and examination
  • Develop your supervisory practice

This highly interactive workshop employs presentations and plenary discussions, individual and small group work, experience sharing and expert advice.

 

Trainer

Dr. Thomas Koch is a research management consultant and certified trainer and coach. He provides hands-on workshops and individual guidance for researchers to realise their career objectives and research ideas. Holding a PhD in physical chemistry from the UK, he builds on 10 years of international experience as a researcher and 12 years of professional experience as a research manager and senior administrator at universities in Bochum (RUB) and Munich (LMU). His professional focus covers research strategy, national and international research funding, early career researcher development.
